The headlines were dramatic. A new flesh-eating disease spread through the Melbourne suburbs and well beyond, disfiguring victims slowly and painfully. The culprit? Buruli ulcer, Mycobacterium ulcerans, a frightening disease that has been with humans for generations and maims thousands annually.
